Mac Collins is a British artist working primarily in sculpture and installation, using resistant materials such as wood, welded steel, cast aluminium and cast glass. The forms he creates shift between recognisable domestic objects and more ambiguous artefacts, often distorting references to material culture in ways that parallel the mutability of memory. Through this work, Collins interrogates the fallibility of memory and the formation of contemporary mythology, exploring how narratives, perspectives and recollections continually warp and evolve with time. He is interested in the social bridges and fractures this causes, and the cultural rituals it breeds. Collins’ work is situated within broader political and cultural contexts, often responding to the British-Jamaican social conditions and communities it emerges from. Formal concerns, including symmetry, ratio, rhythm,

and repetition, underpin much of the physical approach and visual language of his practice. Alongside the physical side of his practice, Collins engages in other academic and cultural pursuits, including writing, public talks, and lecturing. He currently holds the position of Assistant Professor at Northumbria University, Newcastle, and sits on the board of trustees at Primary, Nottingham.
