These intentionally low stools offer the sitter a new perspective of their own spaces. Visually, these objects draw inspiration from a combination of the monumental forms seen in Classical Architecture and West African Senufo stools. These sentimental, hand-crafted Senufo stools have become some of the most iconic and recognisable furniture pieces of West Africa, and are widely appreciated for their form and presence. Despite the low stature of the Senufo stools, they appear particularly imposing, dominating, unmoving and unchanging. Through his design process, Mac has developed forms and shapes that aim to mirror and capture some of these attributes. The forms are simplified, with straighter and more consistent lines than the original hand carved stools, while still maintaining the same monumental presence and stance.
